Dalmatian Days…….Split, a room with a view!

We started the day in Switzerland with a great view over Montreux

and exchanged it for another one, again over water, in Split, Croatia

We took Easyjet from Geneva, a very easy flight to Split. On the plane I first thought we might be being diverted to Russia. I had not realized Croatian sounded so like Russian!

Our arrival to our apartment at the Riva Suites involved going through the narrow streets of Diocletian's Palace…..it seemed rather a long way around from the taxi area but the person who met us said it was the quickest!

The apartment within the walls is fantastic, better than our expectations!

Location, location, location!  You can't beat a view!

After checking the apartment we ventured out……wondering if we should be dropping breadcrumbs to mark our path so that we could find the apartment again…….
We were told the quickest way to get to the center, as opposed to the taxi area, was to go out  the front door , turn right and then go left, and keep going left where there was a choice…...

…..and first left looked like this…...

but looking back we saw an interesting very local Kanoba which we will probably try, especially as it has tripe on the menu!  Not for me, I might add!

We decided to orient ourselves by a semi quick trip around the old town…….

which even had some Roman soldiers!!

and then we returned to the Riva, seen from our window, by way of the palace cellars, to have a pre dinner drink.

We opted for what we thought might be Prosecco….but it was actually more like a martini. Not a problem….we enjoyed watching the action…….
and were able to see our apartment from below…… the row of windows at the top, our bedroom interestingly is in another building to the left! We had not realized….

The sun was beginning to disappear so we decided to return to see the sunset from the balcony…..

For dinner we had booked into a very new restaurant in town, the Paradigma….

This was just opened three months ago and the chef had been at Paul Bocuse….. we have had dinner there and so we expected it to be interesting…….and it was!
In summer dinner is on the roof terrace….

and in winter the dining room would be equally inviting…..

It proved to be a great choice!  We went for their tasting menu, with wine pairing..

All the food was fantastic!

We can definitely recommend……
and we loved the 'bon mot' on the menu

So we intend following his advice while here……...
A walk back along the Riva showed us that Split has a very definite night life!

And we returned to fantastic views from the apartment!
