We had signed up for another safari...., Yala National Park,..this one having us at the gate at opening time....6am! We were not the first to arrive........
We were there to see the leopards......unfortunately they were in hiding!
But our guide had good eyes.... and knew what he was looking for! We would never have seen it in this very leafy tree!
This was to be our only sighting (of a leopard!) during the safari! But there were other animals!
...close up and a little uncomfortable!
There were quite a few elephants around..........
There was also the odd crocodile......
...and lots of birds.........
...and flying peacocks!
...
Plus of course some monkeys!
We were staying at the Jetwing Yala hotel which was designed by Geoffrey Bawa!
It had a nice beach area........
... with a little sign......
Our evening dining experience was enhanced by an elephant who returns every evening... they recognize him by his short tail!
