On the Minoan trail, Crete

We had heard a lot about the Minoan sites in Crete and needed to check them out for ourselves....

The road over the mountains to the south of the island were much higher than expected and the two lane road very twisty.....

Agli Gallini, a resort en route, was rather small and one could have easily bypassed it.......

We arrived at the first Minoan site,  Agia Triada, which didn't exactly have a lot of directional signs...

it was interesting but a little difficult to interpret the living conditions...

But the area where they found pots was easy to understand......

Next on to Faistos, just over the hill on an unpaved road, fortunately with no traffic!

The site at Faistos

is rather fabulous site and we definitely had a feel for how extensive the place was...

Visiting these two sites was just preparing us for Knossos which is fabulous... although crowded with tourists. Think cruise ships stopping in Heraklio, just 15minutes away!
