Octopus on the menu!

We decided that we would explore the area near Elounda, but without spending too much time in the car.  So we headed for a little fishing village called Mochlos.  What we hadn't realised was that the main road would be 350m above the village and that we would have to wind our way slowly down...lots of fairly hairy hairpin turns!

However it was well worth it!!

It is quite a small village but with a surprising number of restaurants and even its very own internet cafe!

We had an absolutely fabulous lunch at To Bogazi, where one of the owners is from Lugano....
The Meze....eggplant salad and dried tomatoes in oil..

were followed by the best mussels we have ever eaten....

and some prawns...

We like the half carafe of wine they use......

and the location was perfect...

The reason we went there was because we were still on the Minoan trail....and we read that there were some ruins which were on an island within easy swimming distance of the shore.  We were not in agreement once we saw the location!
