We were here to see the Sossusvlei sand dunes in the southern part of the Namib desert. Our lodge was very close to the entry gate so we were able to be among the first to be allowed through when it opened in the morning.......
The hot air balloons did however beat us to entry!
The first big dune we saw.....very impressive!
.... from then on only sand tracks.........
Some people were already lined up to do the climb of Big Daddy, the highest dune at around 325meters!
... we took the easier route......
...to Deadvlei........
The climbers had a different way of accessing Deadvlei!
...we then went off to check out Big Mama.....only 200 meters high but also liked by climbers!
On the way back we were able to see the hazards of driving on the sand roads, even in 4 x 4's
Success!
... being totally watched by a curious oryx!
... and then just a little further along........
Fortunately our local guide and driver were willing to help!
