We stayed in Amman for several nights.......it was definitely a contrast as a city to Cairo and Egypt in general!
It is basically a modern city....with modern buildings.....built mostly in their local white stone...
......it certainly did not have the traffic problems so evident in Cairo! The traffic was very orderly in comparison...cars staying in lanes, not honking horns etc!.
......but it did not have the wealth of history of Egypt!
.... it did however have evidence of its Roman occupation.......
.......Exploring the streets around the old Roman ruins was interesting........
An herb/tea store........
A short distance ( by car!!) from Amman is Madaba.....a very interesting city to visit......
The St George's Greek Orthodox church is visited primarily to view a mosaic map....

The Madaba Mosaic map was only found in 1884, when the church was being rebuilt after an earthquake destroyed the prior church which had been on the site. It dates back to the 6th century and shows Jerusalem as it was then, the Jordan river, the Dead Sea and the Holy land......
Mount Nebo was close by... so of course we visited!
Moses could see Jerusalem and the Promised Land from Mount Nebo and apparently they can still be seen on a clear day......unfortunately we did not hit one of those days!
The present day Basilica has been built over early mosaics which are amazing....
