Uluru.....known by many by its older name Ayer's Rock

To get to Uluru ( Ayers Rock) from Alice Springs means a 5 hour drive by road......and just 2 right hand 90 degree turns! Otherwise it was an absolutely straight road!

At the one main junction where one turned right towards Ayers Rock there is a roadhouse...... the only possible stop in the 5+ hour journey!
I wasn't tempted to have a crack!
The road was boringly straight!
...and this was the only habitation we saw en route ......

We checked out a dried out salt lake...........

......and the road continued on straight........
After checking into our hotel the Sails in the Desert, which was great, and deciding that with the air temperature over 40C/105F it was definitely too hot to swim in the pool off we went to check out Uluru ..... and Kata Tjuta

From here we got our first evening view of Uluru.......
but this was a shadow as compared to the sunset view!

We sat watching how it changed over time......  with a little help!
Next morning we went back to check it out in daylight...... and checked out the back side....

... and got to see some cave paintings........
.... the white lines you see here is the path up which until a few months ago was climbed on a daily basis........it is over 1000ft high! Quite a climb! There were quite a number of accidents!
