Alice Springs.....middle of Australia.... in the outback!

As there is no direct flight  from Cairns to Alice Springs one flies into Ayers Rock, now more commonly called Uluru, its official name, and then on to Alice Springs.
So flying into Uluru gave us the opportunity to see Uluru from the air........
This was once again after flying across about 1500kms of desolate countryside ....

Before arrival at our hotel it was decided to stop to check out Standly Chasm...... not a great idea in nearly 40C (100F+) heat, even if a dry heat......and being attacked by tiny flies seeking moisture from one's face!! A 40 minute walk! Afterwards we bought the net covers for our heads which had been offered earlier!

It showed evidence of a recent fire.......
Then after check in to our hotel off we went into the outback for a BBQ!

We also had vocal entertainment.......

Next morning we went again into the outback to learn about and meet some Aboriginals......
In order to avoid problems they are only allowed to marry 4th cousins..... and these are the only names used by them......the arrows show who they are allowed to marry!
They can and have been able to live on what the outback provides......
Berries and nuts plus the odd animal/reptile! Apparently kangaroo is their absolute favourite food!
Sorry, no photos of the reptiles!!

The ladies who create art came early in the morning in order to try to make a sale to us... we were the only ones there.....
... I felt I had to support them once I heard that they retained the full amount we paid.....
So I now have two pieces of Aboriginal art which I will need to get home!
Picking tomatoes above( yellow in the outback!) and medicinal seeds below!
Then on to see kangaroos.... at a Kangaroo sanctuary..... this was set up to bring up Joeys, baby kangaroos whose mother had died perhaps in roadkill or killed by a hunter........
Two baby kangaroos are matched up to be best friends and are kept together.....
After being introduced to the babies we were then taken for a walk in the outback to find the adult kangaroos.  I kept scanning the earth all around me to make sure no snakes were within eyesight!!

They had had one quite famous kangaroo there, Roger........
who was apparently about 7'1"(2.15m) and quite aggressive!

Great sunsets in the outback!!
