An afternoon in Cusco......

So..... when in Cusco one has to visit Cusco's Cathedral...... however no photos allowed!

It has a noteworthy Last Supper painting.... geared to local consumption of guinea pig!
That was on the menu of the arranged lunch.....so I bowed out! Actually even before seeing the painting I had decided!!
Going to a local restaurant seemed a better idea....particularly when it was owned by the Gaston and Astrid restaurant group.   Gaston Acurio is the reason Lima and Peru are on the gastronomical map.... in the top 50 restaurants of the world....
Chicha...

......was casual and the food was definitely more interesting than guinea pig!
To start...... a Tiradito... a type of Ceviche.....
...followed by empanadas  which were not as good as I used to have in Chile!
and of course their pisco sour was good......

As Cusco is at a high elevation (11,000+ feet!) and potentially a lot of their guests are from essentially sea level.....the restaurant is prepared to offer oxygen!  However this is a little off putting on arrival!

Checked out the Museo Inka after lunch.......great!

Apparently one of the best museums in Cusco.... devoted to Inca artifacts.

Then on to the Convent Santa Catalina....... there since the 1600's.....

interestingly this is on the site of what had been an  Inca palace for young chosen beautiful maidens.... who were in it for life. Presumably it was felt that putting a convent in its place would be acceptable!

And today was definitely a foodie day....... I had already booked into a very 'in' restaurant for dinner.....before I knew about the guinea pig for lunch!  This was a very casual but great restaurant...... definitely recommend...
Cicciolina.....

Ambience, food and drinks all great!
