Lake Atitlan and a Mayan village........

 Early morning we left our hotel to visit a present day Mayan village,  San Juan La Laguna on the opposite shore of Lake Atitlan. The easiest access was by boat......by road took a very long time!

We now saw all three volcanoes!

We were getting closer.....

Arriving....... was a little rickety!

We wondered!

We were to visit the local weavers... the dog was bored and didn't even notice us!

This was an amazing place... we got to see the whole process! It's a local women's co-operative.

After our visit our 'taxis' were waiting to take us to lunch.....

We went uphill from the village to a family ranch...... and got to see how a normal family lived.....

They had a room for Catholic religion.....

..with a little of theirs mixed in.......

...lots of chickens...we were hoping they weren't to be on the table for lunch!

... their own coffee beans being dried.....

Some basic farm implements...

and they even had their own ceremonial fire pit......

The small village where we were staying   Santa Catarina Palopo    was also Mayan...... we stayed in the Santa Catarina hotel...a small boutique hotel on the lakeshore.....

The village appeared to be quite religious......

The evening lakeside views were again dramatic!
