Coffee Triangle Colombia

We left Medellin from its closer smaller airport, much more convenient but definitely a smaller older plane!

The flight to Pereira was short, the ride to the finca took longer! It was in the middle of nowhere!

But it had interesting vegetation......

A visit to a coffee growing finca had been arranged, to that of a Colombian entrepreneur,Jesus Martin. This particular farm had started easing out intermediaries and were roasting their own coffee, unusual for Colombians as they typically export the coffee beans un-roasted. They also opened up a small cafe in the nearest  town of Salento.

The finca was up a mountain outside Monenegro so we had to go by Jeep... called Willyz there!

We passed some workers of the finca....
...and then arrived at the charming finca.....
Walking through the coffee plantation we were shown how they choose which beans to pick.

Then back to the finca to see the sorting, washing and drying processes.

We also had a great lunch at the finca.....with a cup of their own coffee!

Then back in the jeep, sorry Willyz, to go back to Montenegro! A little bumpy!

The following day we went to see how they roasted the coffee beans in Salento....

Then we visited their cafe in town.....

The town itself was very colourful!

While there we took a great hike up the Valle de Corcora. This has the tallest wax palms in the world, they can grow up to 200ft.

                                                                        Beautiful!
