We decided to visit Scicli as it is also one of the UNESCO Val di Noto Baroque cities and gets good write ups. Apparently it is also one of the scene sets for the Montalbano detective series...... this is something we have never watched on TV, not indeed heard of until recently. The main pedestrian street is a street with beautiful Baroque residences of the Sicilian Nobility on either side.
It also had 3 large churches within a 100 feet of each other.....
and another 3 just across the street!
I think they must have had them all built after the 1693 earthquake in order to pray excessively..... to ward off another earthquake!
While there we went to a great restaurant.... Satra ..............
We think it should be on its way to a Michelin star.... the chef used to be at Duomo in Ragusa. They also have an herb garden which can be visited..... so lots of herbal flavours in their dishes.
The amuse bouche was olive bread deep fried.....
the starter was a chick pea puree with ricotta and calamaris....
Then on to Modica......where we were booked into the Palazzo Failla hotel...
The room was delightful....
with a different view from where we were staying for the past week.....
loved the bedhead.......
