Rethymno is another town with a great venetian port area......
It has an old fountain..
We checked into our hotel and can absolutely recommend this particular hotel, the Avli......
We arrived dragging our minimal bags( think cobbled street!) from the parking lot and we were invited to sit down and have a drink while checking in/filling out forms etc.! Nothing was rushed...... after a glass of local white wine .... we were taken to our room, which was in a street adjacent to the restaurant.
Our room was fantastic!
As was the roof area.......
and the view from our window was interesting........
Our first evening we ate at a restaurant on the Old Harbour, Cava d'Oro. We were taken there by a friend of the owner of the hotel where we were staying,who had owned a fish restaurant in the town.
It was a fantastic choice! Both ambiance and food!
Our second night we ate in our hotel restaurant, the Avli.
This was also superb!
The hotel had a great wine/oil store underneath our room.....
