We had a fantastic fishy dinner at Giorgos in Plaka, which is small little fishing hamlet near Elounda.
We got to choose what we wanted ,off the menu, and the restaurant was filled with Greeks rather than foreign tourists!
We could have had these.....
Plaka is small but has a lot of choice of fish restaurants..
and still has some real estate opportunities....
We decided to do what we thought was a little side trip on the way back to Heraklio and took the road to the Lasithi plateau...... it looked as though it might set us back an hour or so....
The access road from the Elounda side is extremely windy and takes one over several mountain passes!
Rather narrow roads, generally in good condition, but they narrowed a lot anytime one came to a village! Think donkeys passing each other! Fortunately we didn't meet any buses.
We finally reached the plateau and it was interesting. At one time it had around 6000 windmills functioning, installed by the Venetians. Now it only has 400-500 hundred. However one had to look for them! It must have been a fantastic sight when all were turning!
Thankfully we were spending the night in Heraklio as our ferry to Santorini left early in the morning, so we didn't have to rush down the mountain.
We found a nice restaurant run by a French/Greek couple, Kronio......
We were served a fantastic selection and thought this was lunch......
until they brought the lamb........
During lunch we were intrigued by the mens club across the street and wondered where their wives
were.....
After lunch we found them....around the corner in the shade!
