On to Antigua

Antigua was the capital of Guatemala from Colonial times......until they got tired of repairing/rebuilding after the very frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions!

Getting there from Lake Atitlan was relatively easy.....first with a stop in the Mayan town of Solala......

It was market day... maybe every day is! Mode of getting to the market was interesting.......

All the fruits and vegetables looked great......

..and this was possibly the youngest helper........

Beautiful fabric......

The church across from the market was also very colourful.... inside....

It was fascinating watching the local action........ we were also very lucky to come across a Mayan ceremony near the market  .............

again a mix of religious objects!
Before getting to Antigua we were actually going to do a little detour to San Andreas Itzapa to see some Mayan ceremonies in the temple of Maximon, San Simon........

There was a constant stream of people going to pay their respects to the Saint......
Arriving in Antigua at dusk was interesting.....

We ended up in a really nice restaurant,  the Welton........
