Continuing to explore Antigua, Guatemala..... there is a lot to see!

So on to the rest of the earthquake damaged churches! Walking around Antigua is very interesting and easy.... flat, no hills!

First on the list....... the Church of San Francisco...... which was only partly destroyed in the 1773 earthquake.

Then a short walk to the Santa Clara convent....... almost completely destroyed!

The offending volcano is still in the background!
on exiting one sees the Parque de la Union and the structure where locals can still do their wash!

The kitchen........
...with vent!

Then there was the Church of Our Lady de Carmen....... not possible to enter..

Then on to the iconic arch of Antigua...
This arch joined two parts of a convent, so that the nuns didn't have to go onto the street!
Very little is left of the convent......
used now as storage for statues used in processions!

.
Then on to the Iglesia de la Merced, which we could see at the end of the street......amazingly having suffered little damage from the earthquake, however the monks were forced to abandon it and move to the new location of Guatemala city...

So after all this checking out of earthquake damaged buildings.......something different was needed!
A visit to a chocolate factory!

After watching the chocolate process we were offered a very local meal!
