A trip to Morocco......

Marseille to Tangier...

is a quick 2 hour flight and is very inexpensive... around 50 euros one way with Ryanair!

Before going I had researched the local tour groups and found Around Morocco. They were very efficient and returned emails within a few hours. They were also very amenable to us not using their preferred riads and allowed us to choose our own accommodation. I can thoroughly recommend them!
We were picked up at the airport by our driver and then started our trip in a very comfortable large Toyota A/C 4x4.

Because we wanted to see as much as possible in a short 10 days and a total of  saround 2000 kms we did not actually explore Tangier.... except to see a view of the sea where the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic. And as this is next door to the King's summer palace he presumably has a similar view!

This is also right beside the  Caves of Hercules  an attraction that I skipped.... don't like going too  far underground!

Getting out of Tangier took way longer than expected....it is a very large city! And has lots of slow moving traffic!
Scenery en route once outside city limits was interesting.....

Our first stop was to be Chefchouen.  The easy buying of hasish had made this a favorite place for backpackers. However it is now definitely on the more upmarket 'Tour Morocco' track!

We had lunch in the Casa Hassan restaurant.....lots of charm and surprisingly good food for a total of 9 euros for a 3 course lunch! The local wine was also good!

Exploring the town was relatively easy.... but also easy to not know exactly where one was! Winding narrow streets which turn back on one another....

 and lots of dead ends.......

The blue walls and doors are spectacular......

as are the items for sale........

 and of course carpets......

Transport around town is by donkey...
 or on your shoulder.......

Time to leave Chefchouen.....and on to Fez.....
