St Pierre Market, Martinique

We love going to markets when we are somewhere new and Martinique was no exception.  The market there is apparently the largest on the island, so obviously what was on sale there was indicative of what people eat.....

The market is held on the front by the main ferry jetty.....

with Mount Pelee in the background.... it still considered an active volcano and it crossed my mind to hope there wouldn't be a new erruption  while we were there!

It was extremely colorful.......but we did see some very strange fruits and vegetable!

There were a lot of vegetables which we had never seen before and have no idea what they were......

The canelle (cinnamon) tray is empty because at 2 euros a bunch it was too good for me to pass by!

and we did recognise the bananas.......

We had not realised that Martinique was a big exporter of bananas....... but there were large plantations everywhere!

We never did work out why the bananas were all in blue plastic bags!!
