Venice in February.........Carnevale!!

Spending a week in Venice during Carnevale  has been on my 'to do' list for a while. So this year we are here!

We left Zurich in a snowstorm....... and ground to a halt for over two hours at the Gotthard tunnel!

A large truck coming from Italy had crossed the barrier onto the oncoming traffic and so both sides were closed. We had plenty of time to view the snow covered trees at the side of the road.....

We were eventually lucky to be allowed through the tunnel but saw miles of trucks lined up on the other side of the tunnel.
When we arrived in Venice we parked at their new Tronchetto parking lot which holds 3500 cars and had arranged to be met with a water taxi to take us to our apartment. The view on the way was spectacular...

Our water taxi took us to the steps just outside our apartment, the Ca Navaghero.
This is an apartment we can thoroughly recommend. Very spacious and nicely furnished...

and in a fantastic location, quite close to St Mark's Square.
The views from the window over the canal are great.........

We chose a restaurant which was close by for our first evening and can also recommend it!  Good food  and a very pleasant owner...... who likes you to start with a spritz and end with a grappa, on the house!
We intend to return!
