Terelj National park... near Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

The Terelj National Park is very close to Ulaanbaatar and many families have a second home there...that is, a ger!  UB (as Ulaanbaatar is referred to by locals!) has around 1.6m people and most live in 15-20 story high rise apartments.

We were to have our first ger experience there.  On the way we stopped for lunch in a Kazak ger....

... and heard all about their history and lifestyle. This lady made all the rugs on the floor...beautiful!

The location of our first ger camp was spectacular......

... extremely peaceful, even though there were quite a number of other ger camps close by........

... the ger bed was surprisingly comfortable.... and the ger did have its own bathroom!

We hiked to  a meditation temple....

... with an amazing view!

We checked out the rock formation which looks somewhat like a turtle... Turtle rock!

....and  also visited a local family to see how they make cheese......

We signed up to get close to an eagle and to hear about the problems of being an eagle hunter..... particularly if you are female!

... another hike with amazing views....

.... with a slight detour around a road block!

... the cows were definitely not moving!

We were happy to get to the top!

We couldn't leave the area without checking out the enormous Genghis Khan monument!

... with its extremely large book within.....
