Near the Siberian border at Khuvsgul Lake......

To get to Khuvsgul lake from Ulaanbaatar there are three choices.. drive by car, sleeping 2 nights en route, train... taking 24hours or fly!  This takes 1.5 hours..... best choice!

However the lake area is still 3 hours by road from the airport! And not a great road.... one lane either direction... with animals loose en route.......

and can be flooded after rain!

After arrival we set out on a boat across the lake......

to hopefully encounter reindeer people with their reindeers.........

Not quite rainproof! But they did have a solar panel!

...and domesticated reindeers.....

Back at our ger we realized we were very close to a yak trail........

There were a lot of them! And a minefield of poop!!

Next we went to visit a shaman... to learn about shamanism. Fascinating!

She did tell us she didn't see anything bad happening to any of us in the near future! Good to know!!

Then on to check out a yak farm... in the rain!! First a milking session....

lots of yaks were penned in.....

..until they were allowed out....... we had to move out of their way!

It was then time to see how yak butter is made.......

The yak area was a little bleak....particularly in the rain!

...but the farmer had a means of escape........

even though it was still raining lightly we finished our time at the lake with a bonfire and music!

We took an alternative route back to the airport in Murun... to check out some Deer Stones....

the road to it was rather minimal....

and not in great shape after rain.....

... these herds were not used to seeing cars pass by!

It was definitely worth the off road access!

...and we learnt about the Khirigsuur tombs of an even earlier date..
