Michelangelo sculpted a fabulous David. This was outdoors until it was decided that it should be preserved! And a copy was put in its place....
So first of all we went to the Piazza del Signoria to see the copy.....
And of course we had to sit there and sip a glass of wine
and view Neptune.........
Then we went to the Academia.....
to see the real David......
Apparently no photos are now allowed within the Museum.... I took a lot 13+ years ago!
But I only found out that they were not allowed after I had taken this one!..... It was nicely brought to my attention!!
We went right now, because my teacher at the Italian school recommended it...... her husband is a Professor there and she had been recently to an opening of their Contemporary Art exhibition, which finishes soon.....
and she said we had to see the students new idea of David.........
A little different but......
We then went on to great Florentine trattoria..... Il Cibreo.....
The restaurant requires reservations many weeks in advance, however the Trattoria does not take reservations, so we went there early.....by Italian standards... and had no problem getting a table....at around 8p.m.!!! Its the same kitchen as the restaurant, but one third of the price!
The starters were fantastic.....
As were the main courses......
Fish ..........
Squid......
To be recommended!!!!
And we checked out the pensive night time version of David taken later on, on the way home.......
