The Backwaters of Kerala

The drive down from the high mountains was again dramatic………made even more dramatic by the driver being on his phone!

Chaotic traffic once again......

The flat area around Alleppey seemed incredibly flat after the mountains.
Alongside the canal is apparently a good place to dry the fish just caught!
These are apparently washed and then cooked..........having  suffered a little from the exhaust fumes

Then we arrived at our houseboat. Our driver’s mission had been to get us there for lunch!  As soon as we got on board we set out.

This was a rather fantastic experience, moving slowly down the canal to the lake

then into the backwaters, passing many other houseboats en route.

There was a lot of village life on the banks and we moored for the night in time for dinner.

We woke up fairly early in the morning, and saw the sunrise!

And we also saw many fishermen out for the early morning catch.

Also the families having their morning bath…………

All the houseboats returned at the same time……. plus the commute traffic
