An early flight was planned in the morning to go to Djerba from Tunis.....so a 3.30 am alarm was needed 😅😱
It was a very small propeller plane.....and we were held up over an hour or so because an opposition leader was with us....lots of security! So much for getting up before dawn!
First a visit to a small village, Erryadh... for coffee, croissant and graffiti!
And then a stop at El Ghriba Synagogue...... a yearly pilgrimage was about to start and again lots of security!
Next day on to Tataouine.... around a 2 hour drive...
We checked out the Berber village Chenini.... a troglodytic settlement......
The village served in an episode of Star Wars......an attraction for a lot of tourists! Not me!! But it was an amazing village.
We had to climb to the Mosque at the top!
But we were not returning from shopping.......
Easy to see why George Lucas thought it was a perfect setting for one of the Starwars episodes! No idea which one! But he stayed in the local Ksar converted into a hotel!
We went to see an abandoned Ksar close by! The Ksour ( plural of Ksar!) were fortified areas where Berber families could leave all their possessions when they went off into the Sahara...
Our lunch was in an even more remote place than Chenini!
