Corsica is so close to mainland France (or the Continent, as they call it in Corsica!), but we had never visited... until now!
We took an overnight car ferry from Toulon to Bastia..
We booked on Corsica Ferries as we heard that the alternative ferry SNMC was not as reliable.
This was a great choice... very OK cabins
and surprisingly good food, for a ferry!!
We were also introduced to Corsican wines for the first time.... which are really very good!! We tried the Domaine Gentile and later stopped by their winery in Patrimonio.
And their grappa was excellent..... allowed us to sleep until we arrived in Bastia!
The boat docked early morning so once again we were up at sunrise...
which gave us a full day to tour around Cap Corse. We first stopped in Bastia for breakfast and then went on to Erbalunga.
Which was a little dead at that time of the morning...
It was however worth a stop... and we would not mind going back there. In fact I noticed a new B&B, with a great location, and with a sea view.....
and very reasonably priced......
Then on to Centuri for lunch.
This is a small fishing village and every restaurant seemed to have its own fishing boat.... so they had caught whatever local fish was on the menu. We did have a great lunch in a nice restaurant La Bella Vista....
...... in a really nice location....
Then on to Nonza, which now has no swimming allowed from its beach, as it is asbestos polluted!
Note the road in the background... this was fairly typical of the days drive!
The church was nice, as was the little cafe area..
