As there are very few flights at the moment from Easter Island back to Santiago one is forced to stay overnight. in Santiago..... the Holiday Inn is between the domestic and the international airport terminals...very convenient!
Staying over for a day was not a problem.... a day trip to Valparaiso and a winery visit filled the day!
It takes about an hour to drive from the airport to Valparaiso... we started with the fish market ...
...lots of willing consumers....for free scraps!
Then a visit to Pablo Neruda's house...one of them!
This house gave him the view he searched for many years to have.
Valparaiso has become famous for its graffiti covered alleyways.....
.....then a trip down to the port on one of the original funicular elevators, essentially a cable car pulled up and down the steep hills!
The actual old part of the city was very influenced by the British!
Food was good......
Then a stop at a winery, Bodegas RE, in the Casablanca valley, on the return to Santiago.....great wine!
